  • which informs effective practice within Health and Social Care
  • to support progression on to further study within Health and Social Care.

The Core qualification is the same for both level 2 and level 3.

The Level 2 Health and Social Care: Practice qualification will enable learners to develop and demonstrate their knowledge, understanding, behaviours, skills and practice within a health and social care setting. In particular learners will be able to demonstrate that they:

  • understand, and apply in practice, the principles and values which underpin health and social care

Method of Study

The Practice qualification is primarily delivered at the learner’s workplace, however there may be occasional sessions at Torfaen Training which learners are required to attend. The qualification will assess learners’ knowledge and practice through their work.  Each learner is assigned an individual Training Officer who will schedule visits on a monthly basis. It is a requirement of the qualification that line manager involvement is key to the progress and development of the portfolio of learner evidence in the form of witness testimonies and confirmation of readiness to undertake assessment.

The Core is delivered through blended learning. Each learner will have access to a comprehensive online interactive resource along with individual Training Officer support.  To achieve the City & Guilds Level 2 Health and Social Care: Core (Adults) the learner must undertake three controlled tasks and one online multiple choice test. The controlled tasks will be based on a case study that will be made available to the learner two weeks prior. Learners will then attend the centre or another suitable place and undertake the controlled assignment that is based on the case study.
