Children's Care, Learning & Development Level 3

Overview

In Wales this qualification is designed to guide and assess the development of knowledge and skills relating to children’s care, learning and development. This qualification confirms competence in these areas where appropriate.

The qualification serves as the requirements for registration and regulatory requirements in Wales.

In Northern Ireland registration is voluntary and hence not linked to qualifications and therefore the qualification will enable learners to demonstrate that they meet the level of competency required for inspection purposes.

Course Content

Provide a broad understanding of the children and young people’s sector including - work settings, job range awareness, practical skills and knowledge.

Enable learners to make informed assessment of their ability within this sector.
Encourage learners to reach a level of knowledge and skills that will facilitate progress into further vocational learning or to potential employment in the sector.

Encourage learners to value continued learning and remain in the learning process.
Allow learners to learn, develop and practice selected skills required for progression in the sector.

Provide opportunities for progression to the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Children’s Care, Learning and Development – Advanced Practice (Wales and Northern Ireland) and other related qualifications in the sector.

Method of Study

Combined knowledge and competence-based qualification delivered mainly at the learners place of work. Each learner is assigned an individual Training Officer who schedules visits on a monthly basis.

Entry Requirements

For a funded Level 3 programme applicants must be:
Employed with a contract for a minimum of 16 hours per week at a rate of pay equal to, or in excess of, the National Minimum Wage. The job role must be suitable for the learner to be able to display occupational competence.
