The traineeship that transformed Demi’s career
When Demi Jenkins left school there were a number of career options available but she was not sure what to do next. A friend recommended speaking with Torfaen Training to discuss the options available, which she did, and shortly after Demi enrolled on a Customer Services Level 1 Traineeship. At the time she never thought it would lead to her setting up a business in nails and beauty.
Demi was interested in the beauty industry and a traineeship was arranged with a local beauty studio in Cwmbran. It was here that she quickly began to understand and learn the various skills required to work in a busy studio, Demi said:
“I was shown numerous beauty techniques by experienced staff which made a big difference. There is no substitute for hands on learning in a supervised environment, you just absorb information at a much quicker pace.”
Torfaen Training Officer, Lianne Smith, frequently met with Demi to ensure all her course work was to the necessary standard and to check that she had settled in to this new environment. Demi commented:
“I would always recommend Torfaen Training to anyone who is looking for a traineeship or apprenticeship. They are experienced, professional, and are always at hand if you need advice – especially if you are unsure about which career path to take.”
It soon became apparent that Demi excelled in nails and beauty therapy, with a natural ability in nail art design. Her customer skills had also developed to a high standard which put her in an excellent position for her next career move.
Upon the successful completion of her traineeship, Demi felt she had built up enough confidence to set up her own business. She acquired premises in Abersychan High Street during 2017 and in a short period of time customers, who by word-of-mouth, had heard about her talents began to visit the studio. Now she has a two month waiting list, which shows how established the business has become in a relatively short period of time.
Currently in the top 100 salon’s guide in Wales Demi recently became a finalist at the Welsh Health and Beauty Awards, in the category of Outstanding Business of the Year. Who would have thought a traineeship would lead to such a fantastic outcome. Congratulations from everyone at Torfaen Training, we wish you all the very best for the future.
