The future is looking bright for Callum

During 2012 Callum started A levels at a local 6th Form but after a number of months he began to realise that it was not the learning environment that suited him. Unaware of what career options were available Callum contacted Torfaen Training who arranged an informal meeting to discuss what learning paths and career possibilities best fitted his needs.

Once established that a Work Based Learning solution was the best way forward, Torfaen Training quickly arranged a work placement in the Social Services team of TCBC, where Callum completed a QCF in Business Administration. By the following year he had joined the Pension Section on a fixed term contract and in a short space of time was made a permanent member of staff.

Callum’s dedication was quickly recognised and by 2014 was enrolled onto a 3 year CIPP (Chartered Institute of Payroll Professional) Foundation Degree in Pension Administration and Management, he said:

“Initially it was difficult to get the work / study balance correct but after a number of weeks, plus the time management skills I learnt on the QCF with Torfaen Training, everything began to fit into place.

The 3 year Degree course has flown by and I am so pleased to have been given the opportunity to gain such a recognised qualification. It just goes to show that there are career options available, it’s just a matter of contacting the correct organisations to point you in the right direction. I would recommend Torfaen Training every time, they certainly put me on the right career path.”

Having now successfully completed his studies Callum was named the top Pension student in the UK. The future is looking very bright for 23 year old Callum. Pensions Manager, Mary Rollin, of TCBC sums up the achievement and said:

“‘We are all very proud of him. He is the first in the team to achieve these fantastic awards in completing his exams and indeed is the first CIPP student to have been awarded both awards in the whole of the UK.”
